Recording and Lessons
Nicky D Sound Recording Studio
Recording and releasing music is my passion. I lean towards old analog sounding music, but love producing modern music as well. Working with artists and helping them to achieve their full potential artistically, and career-wise, is my goal. Whether it's rappers, singer songwriters, rock, soul or podcasts, I have the experience and taste needed to make your project shine.
My studio has a large tracking room that sounds great for drums and full bands. The vocal booth is tight and dead sounding for vocals and voice overs. I have Protools/Logic, an MCI 1" 8-track tape machine, Ampex 440c 2 track 1/4" machine, a Yamaha M916 console and M406 side-car, UA 6176 pre, API A2D 312 Pre-amps, loads of mics, a Fender Rhodes, Moog Minitaur, Vintage Ludwig drums, Steinway baby grand piano, and lots of percussion. Reach out to schedule a tour and meet me!

Music has made a huge impact on my life and I love sharing that gift with others. Whether it's piano, drums or music production lessons, I love seeing students grow with their musical talents. Students of all ages, skill levels and styles accepted! -Nicky D
Piano / Keyboard Lessons
Piano was my first instrument and it was a great foundation for all of my musical ventures. I had a great piano teacher growing up, but the lessons were strictly focused on reading and classical music, when I really wanted to be able improvise and play popular music.
In my piano lessons program, I focus on teaching students to be able play music for fun and with others, while still including the important skills of reading and music theory in the curriculum. Playing music is supposed to be fun, and you only need to know some major and minor chords to be able play thousands of popular songs and jam with other musicians!
Drum Set and Percussion
I wanted to play drums for as long as I can remember and I joined band as a percussions in 5th grade. I got my first drum set in 7th grade started jamming with bands. In college, I studied drums with some great teachers at MTSU, and continued to play with bands. Later I studied with the legendary studio drummer Ed Greene (Steely Dan, Barry White, Hall and Oats, on and on...) I've been able to tour the world playing drums with artist such as DeRobert & the Half-Truths, Quinn DeVeaux and Kelly Finnigan.
In my drum set lessons, I focus on the groove, keeping good time, and reading. I transcribe songs for students to learn and also encourage them to bring in material they want to play.
I also teach mallets, and other percussion instruments.
Music Production Lessons
Over the years I've recorded and produced music for a variety of artists and styles. In my music production lessons I take the skills and tricks I've learned along the way, and share them with students. We start with audio basics (soundwaves, EQ, compression, limiting, ect) and move on to real world applications of audio engineering and production. If you are interested in learning more about producing music or working in a recording studio, my music production lessons are a great way to get a foot in the door!
